Santa Clara, CA – January 15, 2017 – DSP Concepts, Inc., a developer of embedded audio processing solutions, and Amlogic Inc., a leading provider of systems-on-a-chip for smart home devices, today announced that Amazon has qualified the Amlogic A113X, an SoC integrating DSP Concepts’ Audio Weaver® Voice UI software, for Alexa Voice Service. This means manufacturers can use the A113X in voice command products with the confidence their solutions have the necessary digital signal processing capabilities to achieve Amazon’s specified voice recognition performance.
Not only does the A113X meet Amazon’s standards, it actually exceeds the voice recognition ability of any voice command product currently on the market. These results were substantiated through tests conducted by DSP Concepts, which included the ability to recognize voice commands from a distance, and to understand voice commands even in the presence of external sources of music or in noisy environments. Real-time demonstrations of the DSP Concepts Audio Weaver Voice UI algorithms’ performance can be seen on DSP Concepts’ YouTube channel.
“I’m proud of our engineers because they were able to solve the last problem limiting widespread adoption of voice UI,” said Dr. Paul Beckmann, co-founder and CTO of DSP Concepts. “Voice recognition in noisy environments has been the Achilles’ heel of voice enabled products, and restricted their use to quiet environments. Our breakthrough noise reduction algorithms easily handle interfering sounds like TVs, radios or appliances.”
The solution is software-based and is highly optimized for the ARM Cortex-A instruction set. It consumes only a fraction of the A113X SoC’s processing capabilities, leaving room for other applications to run. This efficiency allows manufacturers to achieve best-in-the-industry voice recognition accuracy without the expense of using a dedicated DSP chip. The A113X is ideal for a variety of products, including smart speakers, set-top boxes, and smart home appliances.
The reference design is built upon DSP Concepts Audio Weaver design environment. This flexible graphical environment allows the solution to be configured for different array geometries, speaker configurations, and product features. DSP Concepts is also offering Product Acceleration Services for OEMs unfamiliar with the pitfalls and challenges of building voice enabled products.
