Compressor Core

Hi there, 

I've been trying to use the Compressor Core module, as a normal compressor you would find in any DAW. The functions of a standard compressor are all there, ratio, threshold, gain, attack, decay, etc, but when I play with the settings, it doesn't behave like a normal compressor. Could someone give me some light on what the compressor core actually is, and if I were to get a normal compressor module, would that be it, or is there another option?
