I keep getting the same error when starting up AWE Designer:
"Error connecting to the AWE Server. Verify that the Server is connected to the target.
Error in => awe_designer.m at line 127"
I have seen other people have had this error on this forum, and I've tried following the advice on those other posts (EG adding different executables to firewall exceptions, etc, even removing all versions of Matlab from my PC and reinstalling AWE Designer including the Matlab runtime), but nothing seems to be working, despite spending hours trying to get this to work. It doesn't improve the situation that the error message I am receiving from AWE designer is not helpful, and doesn't help me to understand what the problem is.
I'm running Windows 10 64-bit, trying to run AWE Designer 8.B.1.4.E-build382 Standard. I always get the same error message when trying to load this program.
Any help trying to get this program running would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jake

Hello Jake,
Unfortunately we currently require that audio devices are available in order to properly drive the Native target. We are in the process of improving this error messaging for the next software release (please refer this forum post for more information). If you look towards the bottom of your screen shot of the Audio Weaver Server, you will notice that you have '0 input channels' and '0 output channels' available, and this is why you are receiving this error message. To fix the issue, please try enabling your computers' microphone and speakers.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin, thank you for your reply. I am accessing the PC on which I'm trying to run AWE Designer remotely using RDP, and I have my audio input and output forwarded through RDP from my local PC. I have tested both the speaker and microphone, and other programs on this remote PC are able to use the microphone on my local PC to record audio and use the speakers to play audio. So why would AWE Designer not be able to detect my speaker or microphone, and what do I need to do to make AWE Designer be able to detect them?
RE improving the error messaging, what would be more helpful is if AWE didn't raise an error at all if it can't detect a speaker or microphone, because when I have been running AWE Designer on a different machine, I've been able to do everything I've needed to do (create AWE designs, feed it MP3 files stored on the PC, and save the output audio to other MP3 files) without needing to use a speaker or microphone. So to me it would make more sense if AWE only raised an error when a user tries to do something that actually requires them to use a speaker or microphone?
Thanks again,
Jake

Hello Jake,
Audio Weaver Server requires on Windows, actual DirectX devices it can enumerate and open. A reason as to why you may be able to play audio remotely is that the RDP opens the local audio device and streams data to/from it, but that would not necessarily mean that Audio Weaver can see the these audio devices in the server running outside the RDP.
Thanks for your suggestion as well. We have received similar feedback from other customers, and so the next Audio Weaver release will allow users to open Designer and load/run layouts even with no input devices. There will still always need to be an output device though to run though, but at least Designer will still open.
Thanks,
Kevin

I have the same issue. But I have enabled audio devices, a license, and tried with and without my firewall enabled. I'm attempting to run the ST version of audio weaver, but cannot get past the server error at line 127 that seems to be an issue from years ago until now. Anything else I can try? I'm using windows 10 pro.

Hi jivey_8997,
Sorry to hear you're having this error. Are you running the latest version of ST (8.C.1.3.B)? Also is your target is set to native with both an active input and output device checked in your server preferences?
5:13pm
Yes, I have the latest version. I may be missing something simple, but I have active input and output devices on my PC which are capable of directX, I believe. The shortcut created by the installation launches awe_designer.exe. When I try to run this, the next thing I see is the error box and nothing else. There is no server or designer GUI that starts, so I don't have a way to set anything for the AWE server, unless there is a setup step I'm missing.

Thanks for the info. I've not been able to consistently reproduce the error on my side. Seeing as you have an active input and output device we may have to do a bit more digging. I will reach out over email.
